How to Plan a Year of Blog Posts

A year-long plan keeps a blog on track without becoming a rigid script. Here is a practical way to build one.

A plan helps you write consistently and avoid scrambling for ideas.

Define your themes

Choose four to six topics that match your readers’ needs. Every post should fit at least one theme.

List the questions your readers ask

Collect questions from emails, comments and conversations. Each question can become a post.

Map the seasons

Note events, holidays and busy times in your field. Plan relevant posts a little ahead of time.

Choose a rhythm

Decide how often you will publish, and count the slots across the year. Be realistic.

Fill the calendar loosely

Give each slot a working title and a theme. Leave a few open slots for news and new ideas.

Plan some larger pieces

A few in-depth guides can anchor the year, with shorter posts supporting them.

Review every quarter

Check which posts worked and adjust the plan. A good calendar is a guide, not a cage.
