These guidelines describe the standards we apply to everything we publish, and what we expect from guest contributors.
Our standards
- Accuracy. Facts, figures and quotations are checked before publication, and sources are cited where they matter.
- Usefulness. Every article should help the reader do something or understand something better.
- Clarity. We prefer plain language, short paragraphs and concrete examples.
- Independence. Sponsorship does not change our standards. Sponsored articles are held to the same bar and are labelled.
For contributors
If you would like to write for us, please follow these guidelines.
- Send original work that has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration elsewhere.
- Aim for 800 to 1,500 words, with a clear structure and informative subheadings.
- Write for the reader. Keep promotion to a minimum and avoid sales language.
- Support claims with reputable sources and link to them.
- Use your own examples and words. We do not publish plagiarised or mass-produced content.
- Include one relevant link to your site where it adds value to the reader.
- Images must be yours or properly licensed, and you must be able to show the licence if asked.
Editing
We edit for clarity, accuracy, tone and fit, and we may change titles, headings and structure. We will ask you to approve substantial changes before publication.
Rights
You keep ownership of your work. By submitting, you give us a non-exclusive licence to publish it on our site and in related promotion. You confirm that the work is original and that you have the right to submit it.
Corrections
If you find an error, contact us with the article title and the correction. We will review it promptly and update the article, noting significant changes.
Declined submissions
We may decline any submission, including those that do not fit our topics or standards, and we may remove published content if it proves to be inaccurate or in breach of these guidelines.
