How we create and check our articles
What happens between an idea and a published article, and who is accountable for it.

Who writes for us
Articles are written by our editorial team and by guest contributors. Where an article is written by a guest, the byline or an author note says so. Articles marked as sponsored are paid placements, and we label them clearly.
Our process
- Commissioning. We choose topics that help our readers do or understand something.
- Drafting. The writer drafts the article in their own words. We do not publish plagiarised or mass-produced content.
- Fact-checking. We check facts, figures and quotations, and ask for sources where a claim matters.
- Editing. An editor reviews the article for accuracy, clarity, tone and usefulness, and may change titles and structure.
- Approval. Guest authors approve substantial changes before publication.
- Updating. We review articles over time and update or remove those that are out of date.
Health, money and legal topics
Articles in these areas are general information, not advice. We ask contributors to avoid personal medical, financial or legal recommendations and to point readers to qualified professionals. Where an article needs expert review, we say so.
Independence and sponsorship
Sponsorship does not buy a positive opinion. Sponsored articles meet the same standards as everything else, are labelled, and use links marked rel="sponsored". Read the sponsored content policy.
Corrections
We correct mistakes openly. See our corrections policy or tell us about an error.
Use of software tools
We may use software tools to help with research, grammar or formatting. Writers and editors remain responsible for what is published, and every article is reviewed by a person before it goes live.
